Rooted in Legacy, Driven by Vision
This collaboration holds particular significance as Jotun celebrates 50 years in Saudi Arabia, honoring five decades of color, protection, and design innovation across the Kingdom. It also coincides with the debut of Downtown Design Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s first fair dedicated to contemporary, high-end design, held in the heart of the JAX District.
A Journey Through the Colors of the Land
A sensory journey through the kingdom’s diverse regions. A design that takes the form of five symbolic gates, each one a portal into the distinct identity, heritage, and character of its region. With every step, visitors are invited to see, feel, and experience beauty as a generational value, crafted through culture, sustained through design, celebrating the soul of Saudi Arabia, past, present, and future.
Central Gate: Timeless Heart of the Kingdom
This gate draws from the Central region’s powerful cultural core, where the Ardah dance resounds, palm weaving continues as craft, and Najdi mud architecture stands proud. Ornate wooden doors, Zari embroidery, and henna motifs tell stories of identity and celebration. Horses and camels move with grace across the land, while dates remain a symbol of welcome.
Eastern Gate: Between Tide and Tradition
The Eastern region is shaped by its coastline and timeless craftsmanship, where every detail tells a story of legacy and trade. From the delicate pearls and pottery to the flowing bishts of master tailors, this space celebrates the rhythm of waves and vibrant markets.
Southern & Northern Gate: Echoes of Earth and Heritage
From the Southern mountains to the Northern valleys, this gate captures the spirit of two regions deeply rooted in tradition. Vibrant Qatt Asiri art, floral crowns, and stone façades reflect the South’s bold beauty, while Sadu weaving, the Rababah’s melody, and ancient incense evoke the North’s quiet strength.
Western Gate: Between Tide and Tradition
The Western region flows with layered histories. From coral stone architecture and mashrabiyyahs that dance with light, to the vibrant souqs and spiritual pulse of the Two Holy Mosques, this gate reflects a region where cultures converge. Hijazi garments, Ajwa dates, and the Red Sea coast inspire a palette that is both spiritual and sensual.
